Meet Astroman: refreshing, playful, authentic

Astroman beautifully combines our deep-rooted passion for designing, bronze casting and space travel. We decided to craft exclusive, numbered and signed bronze sculptures that all evolve around astronauts and space. We depict male astronauts, female astronauts and even space dogs in recognizable, everyday situations. Every bronze sculpture and statue tells a new, unique, vivid story.

While crafting our bronze sculptures and statuettes, we unleash our imagination and let our creativity run free. For our bronze sculptures we often take inspiration from (famous) pictures, paintings, movies and songs as well. Our previous collections ‘From Niner to Fiver’ and ‘The Box’, for example, are based on the movie ‘The Right Stuff’ (1983) and on the picture ‘Lunch atop a Skyscraper’ (1932) respectively.

Limited-edition collector’s items

Our Astroman bronze sculptures and statues are only available in a limited-edition series of 6+2 AP bronze sculptures. The bronze figures are numbered and signed individually and are all delivered with a certificate of authenticity. Our Astroman bronze sculptures and statues are usually around 40 cm high, but we can adapt the dimensions according to your preferences. We launch a new series of bronze sculptures and statuettes every few months. Want to be the first one to know our release dates? Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Our luxurious bronze astronaut sculptures can be seen as collector’s items since each piece from each collection is unique. Every time a new Astroman series is released, you can keep on expanding your collection of bronze astronaut sculptures. You’ll see, they’ll soon become a valuable part of your interior design.

Astounding, durable bronze sculptures and statuettes

Bronze has always been a much-loved alloy to craft sculptures and statues. Archaeologists have found countless bronze sculptures and figurines among the ruins of ancient cities in Italy, Greece, India, China and Egypt. And that’s no surprise. Bronze easily resists breakage, is extremely durable and strong and creates an exceptional, breathtaking look. Moreover, the natural or chemically-induced patinas provide endless creative possibilities for the sculpture artist. No bronze sculpture will ever look the same.

Sculpture artists J. De Clercq and D. Ginsberg always work with a 90/10 bronze alloy, which consists of 90% copper and 10% tin. This alloy creates the distinctive, yellow-red bronze hue and contributes to the sophisticated, refined finish of our luxurious bronze sculptures and statuettes.

Carefully crafted with traditional casting techniques

We design and cast our bronze sculptures in our own bronze foundry in Belgium by using the lost-wax and ceramic shell casting technique. The lost-wax method is a time-honored, metal-forming technique to craft jewelry and art. Although this method is nearly 6000 years old, it’s still widely used and recognized today. During the lost-wax and ceramic shell process we always ensure the highest precision and quality, from start to finish.

What are bronze statuettes or figurines?

Our Astroman bronze sculptures are in fact bronze statuettes or figurines. Bronze statuettes or figurines are fairly small, three-dimensional bronze sculptures that usually represent humans, animals or deities. There is no fixed size limit, but bronze statuettes or figurines are usually up to 60 cm high.

Clay, glass, wooden, metal and bronze statuettes or figurines have been made for millennia now. Some statuettes or figurines even date back to 25-30,000 BC. You probably know the famous ‘Venus of Willendorf’ figurine that was made nearly 25,000 years ago. The creation of (bronze) statuettes or figurines has always been a loved way to portray emotions, symbols or situations, both in prehistoric and contemporary times.

How do we manage to craft bronze sculptures that are so unique?

Bronze foundry De Clercq – Ginsberg has a long-standing experience in bronze casting and bronze restoration. Our technical knowledge, artisan working method and artistic virtuosity have been passed down for 3 generations now. Our professional workshop is located in Ghent, Belgium. There, we have an XL-oven and all the equipment we need to craft bronze sculptures of the highest quality.

As passionate and dedicated sculpture artists we work very hard every day to exceed your expectations. Not a single detail escapes our attention. Because in the end, we want our customers to be over the moon with their bronze astronaut sculptures.
